“Because of the choices we’ve made, our office uses less energy and water, and promotes health and productivity with great internal air quality. We’ve long advocated the benefits of sustainable offices, in terms of cost savings and positive impact on staff. Now we’ve taken our own medicine, and we’re loving it.”

NZGBC Chief Executive Alex Cutler

The new NZGBC headquarters is a showcase project manifesting the spirit of the organisation, aimed at providing a drop in centre for members, as well as providing a space for lectures, events, training, and so on.

Designed to a strict budget, the fitout was achieved for around the same cost as a standard fitout for a small organisation. The focus was on designing in elements that would pay for themselves in terms of energy saving costs, and providing a healthy working environment.

The offices were assessed under the Green Star independent rating system. Green Star is New Zealand’s independent rating system that assesses buildings’ environmental aspects across a number of categories. The offices were ultimately certified by the NZGBC, but assessed under the same strict process by two independent assessors and an independent chair, who co-ordinated the assessment meetings.

NZGBC’s offices were certified 5 Green Stars under the Interiors rating in April 2015.
